Yannis K. Ioannou was born in Athens. At the age of ten he started studying accordion at the "Hellenic Conservatory" by D. Metaxas. It was then, that he "discovered" Byzantine music. In 1966, he became member of one of the dozens rock groups of his time.
In 1968 he went to the "Apollonian Conservatory", where he studied next to Vassilis Dellios, who taught him writing for Brass & Woodwind Instruments. He completed his studies at the "Conservatory of Athens", next to M. Pallandios, K. Kydoniatis, Y. Ioannidis, M. Dragoumis and other respectable teachers.
He was distinguished in Harmony and Counterpoint in 1983.
He also studied Classical Orchestration (on physical & electronic musical instruments).

In 1982, he made his first appearance as a composer at a festival and was distinguished by a committee such as, among others, Mikis Theodorakis and Yannis Ritsos.
In 1986, synthesizers and computers started to be his main interest. He is one of the pioneering self-taught computer musicians in Greece. Yannis K. Ioannou works as professional arranger, keyboardist and producer in Greek Record Industry, in Concerts, in Musical Theatres and Television from 1978.
He has met and worked with almost every famous Greek composer and singer in Greece (Mikis Theodorakis, Vassilis Tsitsanis, Vangelis, Stavros Xarchakos, Thanos Mikroutsikos, George Dalaras,  Maria Farandouri, etc.). He has also performed in many concerts in Greece and abroad. From 1994 he is partner of Mikis Theodorakis, arranging and playing piano & synthesizers for "Popular Orchestra - Mikis Theodorakis".
Yannis K. Ioannou is the mentor-producer of singer Kalliopi Vetta.

He has received three Golden Record Awards:  for his two songs in the album of famous Greek Rock singers Vasilis Papakonstandinou, "Tell me a lie to sleep", for the arrange of Vassilis Saleas' (a Greek Gypsy Clarinet Virtuoso) album, "Orama" (Vangelis' compositions) and for Saleas' album "Litany" (Mikis Theodorakis' compositions).

In the near future, he plans the release of his first personal album.
Since 1986 he is using computers while since 1997 has his own pages to Internet ( www.ioannou-music.gr/ ).
Since today he has worked on more than:
200 discographic projects,
thousands live performances and concerts
